Graphite sits between charcoal and mid gray, dark enough to hide handling marks on a closet shelf but not as flat as black. The build is a square 15 by 15 by 10 inch poly-cotton shell with cardboard stiffening the four sides and the base, and there are two in the set.
Gray at this depth does two useful things on a shelf: it does not show the smudge a hand leaves on the lid after a few months, and it recedes next to white trim instead of punching a hole in it. The poly-cotton surface is matte, so overhead light does not bounce off the lid the way it does off coated plastic.
The stiffening panels go into the four walls and the floor, which is why a loaded box keeps square corners and takes another box on top instead of bowing. Pull the panels and the shell folds down to a flat stack of fabric. That is the trade for not using rigid plastic: full shape when loaded, almost no volume when empty.
Ten inches of interior height is roughly four folded sweaters, stacked low enough that the bottom one is not crushed under a column of wool. Breathable canvas matters for the same load, since knits put away damp in a sealed bin come out smelling of it. With two boxes, winter and shoulder season can live separately on one shelf.
