A tall arched handle makes this basket look like something carried in from a garden, and taking the handle off turns it into a plain open vessel for a shelf or a floor corner. Seagrass is woven by hand across a frame measuring 22.5 by 12.5 inches.
The handle detaches, which changes what the piece is: attached, it carries cut stems, kindling, or a bundle of market vegetables; removed, it becomes a low open basket that sits under a console or beside a hearth without the arch blocking anything hanging above it.
Durable seagrass gives the body its texture and its pale straw color, a surface that suits coastal and bohemian rooms as well as a farmhouse entry. Hand weaving means the pattern tightens and loosens slightly around the basket, and the tone varies between strands rather than running uniform from end to end.
Depth and width of 22.5 by 12.5 inches take a spread of long stems laid at an angle, a potted plant with its saucer, or the small household items that collect on a hall surface. At 18.5 inches high with the handle up, the basket also moves without the contents tipping.
