Two shallow baskets, one 16 by 10.5 inches and the other 14 by 9, both woven from water hyacinth over iron frames and closed with solid oak lids. Stacked, they form a small tower; separated, they cover two surfaces with the same material and finish.
The lids are solid oak rather than fabric or woven fiber, which gives each basket a flat, firm top that can take a lamp, a candle, or the smaller basket of the pair. Wood against woven hyacinth also sets up a contrast of two natural materials instead of one repeated texture.
Dimensions are stepped deliberately, 5 inches high on the large basket and 3.5 on the small, so the pair sits together as a tidy stack on a console or a shelf. Used apart, the large one handles textiles while the small takes remote controls or keys, and both still read as a set.
Water hyacinth fibers are woven closely over iron frames, the metal doing the structural work so a shallow basket does not splay outward once it is filled. Keeping contents hidden under a lid is what lets these sit in a living room without the clutter inside becoming part of the decor.
