Diameter and height are nearly equal here, 18 inches across against 17.25 tall, which gives a drum shape with real volume: enough for a load of laundry or a folded duvet. The black geometric figures are worked into the weave with dyed paper fiber rather than printed on the surface.
An 18 inch circle carried up 17.25 inches gives the basket a near-cylindrical body, and that is the geometry a hamper needs: wide enough to take a full armload, deep enough that the top layer does not spill. The same proportion works holding rolled blankets upright in a living room, or dropped over a plain plastic planter.
Dark fiber runs in repeated geometric figures against the natural cattail ground, so the pattern comes from the weave structure itself. On a basket this size the motif has room to repeat several times around the circumference instead of reading as a single stripe. The result is graphic enough for a modern room and rough enough for a rustic one.
Handles are built into a metal wire frame that runs through the weave, which is the only way an 18 inch basket survives being dragged full of wet towels. Fiber alone tears at a handle joint under that load. With the frame taking the strain, the grips can sit flush with the wall of the basket rather than sticking out as separate loops.
