Narrow and tall rather than wide: a 14 inch circle taken up to 18 inches, which puts the rim at roughly knee height beside a sofa. The black bands repeat at intervals up the body, so the eye reads horizontal rings instead of one solid field of natural cattail.
The banding is the whole identity of this basket: dark paper rope courses alternate with natural cattail at regular intervals, so the 18 inch wall is divided into readable horizontal sections. Vertically striped or solid baskets look busier in a group; bands sit calmly next to patterned textiles. The intricate weave keeps enough irregularity that the rings never look machine-printed.
A 14 inch diameter is small enough to slot between a chair and a wall where an 18 inch bin would not go, and the height recovers the volume that the narrow base gives up. Bulky household items go in vertically: rolled towels, a stack of books on end, or a couple of folded throws.
Cattail and paper rope are wrapped around a structured metal frame, which is what lets an 18 inch column stand on a 14 inch base without leaning. The frame also fixes the rim diameter, so the mouth stays a full circle and sweaters come out without snagging on a pinched edge. Longevity here comes from the metal, not the fiber.
