A floor basket earns its place by being large enough to swallow what a shelf cannot: rolled blankets, spare pillows, a stack of magazines. This one is handwoven from banana leaf with rope and water hyacinth, measures 17.7 inches in diameter, and stands 19.7 inches high.
Banana leaf fibers are woven by hand with rope and water hyacinth over a wire frame, so the basket keeps its round silhouette whether it holds two pillows or nothing at all. A woven shell without that internal frame slumps once the contents come out, which is what ends most floor baskets.
Handles worked into the sides let a loaded basket be moved rather than dragged, useful when it doubles as a laundry carrier between a bedroom and a machine. At just under 20 inches high, the rim sits at the level of a sofa arm, so reaching in does not mean crouching.
The undyed natural finish keeps the fiber color and the weave pattern on show, which is the point in farmhouse, boho, and coastal rooms where texture carries the decorating. Beside linen upholstery or a jute rug it reads as another layer of the same material language, not as a container.
