Two regular loads fit inside, which is about a week for one person, and the drape lid keeps all of it out of view until wash day comes around. The rubberwood frame folds shut, so the 17 by 19.75 inch footprint only exists while the hamper is actually collecting.
Rubberwood gives the crossed supports their stiffness, holding a full bag without flexing, and the X geometry is what lets the frame close. Pressing the crossings together flattens the hamper for a dorm closet, a car trunk at the end of a semester, or the gap behind a bedroom door.
Capacity runs to approximately two regular loads, so the hamper absorbs a week of clothes for one person or a few days for two before anything has to move. At 30 inches high the opening sits near hip level, which means dropping clothes in rather than crouching to a basket.
A soft drape lid lies across the mouth of the poly-cotton bag and conceals the contents without a hinge, a latch, or anything to lift. The bag itself detaches for a machine wash, and with it off, the folded frame takes almost no room in a small apartment or dorm.
