A 16 by 32 inch pad turns a dining table into a sewing station: machine on one half, pressing area on the other. Silicone on the underside grips the table so the machine stops creeping forward, and the pockets along the edge take scissors, bobbins and the thread ends nobody wants on the floor.
The underside is silicone, which is there to keep a running machine from wandering across a smooth table. Holding the machine still also cuts the drumming noise that a hard surface amplifies through the tabletop. The same grip keeps the pad itself from sliding when fabric is pulled across it, so a seam line stays where it was set.
Grid areas divide the 32 inch length into a zone for the machine and a zone for pressing, so an iron goes down beside the work instead of on a separate board across the room. Sewing and pressing happen in the same arm sweep. The grid also gives a square reference when a hem or a seam allowance is lined up.
Three storage pockets hold bobbins, pins and a seam gauge, and two narrow pockets are sized for scissors so the blades sit point down. The waste bag detaches, which means thread clippings and fabric scraps go to the bin without a trip for the dustpan. Everything stays with the pad when it rolls up between sessions.
