The springform frame does the work: release it and the hamper opens to 18 inches square and 29 inches tall, twist it and the whole body packs down again. A mesh top lets air through the load, and the long strap carries everything once the wheels come off.
Springform steel construction means the body holds its shape with no poles and no assembly, and the mesh section across the top keeps air moving through damp towels instead of sealing odor inside. Dark blue lining below hides the contents from anyone passing the open door of a dorm room.
The strap measures 45 inches, long enough to cross a body rather than hang off one shoulder, which changes how a full hamper handles on stairs or in a shared laundry building. On flat ground the wheels take over, and they detach whenever the hamper has to lie flat.
A drawcord runs through the top edge and a cord lock holds it wherever it is pulled, so the opening cinches tight for a trip or stays half open for daily use. Closed, a load stays put on a stairwell; open, clothes drop in from standing height without aiming.
