The frame comes unfinished, which is unusual and deliberate: bare wood takes stain or paint, so the hamper can be matched to a dresser instead of settling for whatever shade it was built in. One large polycotton bag hangs inside, and a soft lid folds over the opening.
Nothing has been applied to the frame, leaving the grain open for stain, paint, or oil in whatever color the room already runs. That makes it the hamper for a bedroom where furniture has a specific finish, and it also means a scuffed frame can be refinished rather than retired.
A cloth lid folds across the mouth of the bag, hiding the contents with no hinge or catch to operate. Flipping it back takes one hand on the way past, and the soft top will hold a stack of folded towels between loads without anything sliding off the edge.
The frame assembles without tools and collapses just as easily, flattening for storage behind a door once the standing 30 by 17 by 19 inch footprint is no longer wanted. The polycotton bag lifts out, washes cold with like colors, and air dries before going back on the frame.
