A retractable line needs something solid at the far end. This post assembles from three sections of heavy gauge galvanized 2-inch steel that fit together snugly, giving the five-line dryer a fixed anchor in open ground when no wall or fence stands in the right place.
The post comes as three pieces of 2-inch heavy gauge steel that slot together snugly, a joint design meant to put the strength of a single column behind a loaded line. Galvanizing covers the metal against weather, since a clothesline post spends its working life standing outdoors in whatever arrives.
The five lines extend to 34 feet each, adding up to 170 feet of hanging space, and all of that pull has to terminate somewhere. Setting the post at the far end turns an open yard or a driveway edge into a drying field without borrowing a fence rail or a tree trunk.
Paired with the adjustable five-line dryer, the post supports hanging wet or dry laundry inside a basement or garage as readily as outside in the sun. Because the lines retract once the wash comes down, the span disappears and only the post itself remains standing in the open.
